Description
The ACOEM Serinus 50analyzer uses pulsed UV fluorescent technology to measure sulfur dioxide (SO2 ) inambient air from 0 to 20 ppm. Providing a constant stream of accurate and reliable data, it enables governments and organizations to reduce their environmental footprint while complying with international regulations.
The measurement of sulfur dioxide is based on the classical principles of fluorescence spectroscopy. SO2 has a strong ultraviolet (UV) absorption spectrum between 200 and 240 nm. When SO2 absorbs UV at this wavelength, photon emission occurs (300 to 420 nm). The amount of fluorescence emitted is directly proportional to the concentration of SO2. The Serinus 50 follows these principles and measurement techniques: The air sample is passed through a hydrocarbon kicker which removes hydrocarbons (a common interferent). UV energy from a zinc discharge lamp is passed through a UV bandpass filter to produce radiation at 214 nm. The radiation is focused in the fluorescence cell where it is absorbed by SO2 molecules. The SO2 molecules emit photons (fluorescence) uniformly in all directions.
